FINALLY!!!!

Postby Cody_Ensanian on Fri Mar 19, 2010

I am 100% done! I finally bought backing/line for my reel! And tomorrow (well, later today technically) I will be fishing/testing, for the first time, my very first custom built fly rod. I know I've mentioned it before, but here is a summary of it's stats...

Blank: G Loomis GL3 6'6" Mahogany 3WT
Handle: 6.5" cigar
Reel seat: Amboyna Burl/Nickel
Thread colors: Brown tipped with gold
Reel: G Loomis Venture 3

I can NOT wait to fish this rod! :D

That's it? One measly picture and some basic specs? Dude, ya gotta give us more than that! Looks nice and that size & weight should be great on smaller streams. I like the reel seat metal finish - notice how the reel reflects the flash but the reel seat doesn't.

When are you gonna take it out?

Here are some more pics. It's funny about that reel seat.. it was much brighter when I originally purchased it, but it "aged" (perhaps "oxidized" is the proper term?) while sitting around waiting to be built. I actually like the more rustic look it has now, so I'm not complaining, haha. I fished a small mountain stream the other day with it (last Thursday I think it was)... wow what a blast this rod was!! I'm used to fishing 5/6 weights.. never had fished anything smaller.. It took some cast to get used to this much lighter rod.. but WOW what fun this rod was on the water!!! I would have been happy landing one or two fish with this rod on its first outing.. but I had a 12 fish day!!! 11 brookies and 1 GORGEOUS wild brown. It was an amazing first time on the water with this rod, a day I will never forget!

Pretty work. Glad to see you put it through its paces too!
There's nothing I love more than taking a nymph fishing.

Nice work Cody! The Red / Yellow wraps give it an "aggressive" look. Sort of reminds me of a paper Wasp.

And good kharma catching a boat-load on its maiden trip!
